B&B treat, lakes and Canada Day Celebrations!
I had the opportunity to tour one of Battlefords Tourism's member businesses this past Tuesday. Lakeview Lodge Bed & Breakfast sits nestled on the shore of Jackfish Lake at Metinota and is owned and operated by Gary and RoseMarie Nyholt.
I was treated to a delicious lunch and superb view, as RoseMarie served us on the deck overlooking her garden and Jackfish Lake. The B&B offers guests a home away from home, with home-cooked meals, cozy living areas and tranquil views. This is a must-stay for anyone looking for a little R&R at a lakeside retreat.
If you are looking for something to do tomorrow, there are plenty of Canada Day Celebrations taking place in and around the Battlefords. The Battlefords Provincial Park, located North of the Battlefords, will be playing host to a number of activities throughout the day (park entry fee applies). In addition, Fort Battleford National Historic Site will showcase the heritage site along with cake and children's activities beginning at 11am...and it's completely FREE! The City of North
Battleford is in charge of the fireworks this year, which will be launched from King Hill later in the evening. However, you will also want to attend the celebrations taking place at the Don Ross Centre (891-99th Street) starting at 8pm.
Have a safe and enjoyable long weekend. Happy Birthday Canada!

Exactly one year ago today, the Olympic Torch passed through the Battlefords on it's journey to the 2010 Olympic Winter Gamer in Vancouver, British Columbia. Memories captured from that day were revealed today at the unveiling of the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay Legacy Installation at the North Battleford Sports Museum and Hall of Fame. The permanent display features an interactive component along with the Olympic torch, donated by torch bearer Fiona Smith-Bell.
Museum patrons will be able to relive the Olympic spirit and have their picture taken with the torch. Images will be printed and saved in the archives. View a special Olympic presentation about the route and the celebrations in the Battlefords.
